This memoir displays and incredible strength of spirit and enduring humour; conveyed intimately yet casually, as if you are being told directly by the writer about his life. The story is relatable and interesting - a window into the life of someone dealing with illness and disability, who also shares not only his struggles but his triumphs and things he loves in life. If you're life is not, you're doing it wrong. Jonathan Fisher has done so in a way that is, by far, one of the most quirky and endearing reads I've enjoyed in quite a while. Unlike other autobiographical authors I've read who come off as comedic but contrived, the offbeat sincerity and raw honesty in his humor makes you feel like you really know him. His artwork is exquisite, and the little tidbits about his interests are shared in such a funny way that you can't help but chuckle at the angst of geeky youth.<br />This is not a book about the struggle of Addison's disease; it is a book about the struggle of life that includes Addison's disease and the triumph of the human spirit over both. I genuinely applaud Mr. Fisher for sharing his unique slice of life with the world.<br/> I am Trekkie and comic book aficionado, so Jonathan Fisher's teenage years were relatable, amusing, and offered a large dose of geeky nostalgia! The drawings and photos in this book gave the biography a personalized "journal-like" quality. Even before the onset of his Addison's disease, he lived life boldly, humorously, and with much testosterone! He interweaves touching anecdotes such as "Happiness is Dog-shaped" along with reckless adventures "Unlucky for Some" in a manner which gives his character realistic dimension. Clearly all these experiences helped Jonathan mount his continuing battle against his life-threatening Addison's condition. Although at times his medical drama was painful to envision, the inspiration came from the humor and intense creativity born from that pain.
